WLW is a recurring blog segment in which I highlight a book I have on my wish list. Sometimes it's a new release, sometimes a beloved classic, and sometimes it's a hidden gem.
My favorite kind of urban fantasy is the kind that skirts towards the grittier side of the street. And it looks like Sarah Pinborough's Dog-Faced Gods trilogy should suit me just fine.
The first book in the series, A Matter of Blood, introduces a disgraced detective in the wake of his brother murdering wife and child before taking his own life. All this in a near-future world that sees first world nations indebted to the Bank, an Ayn Randian wet dream alliance of the world's wealthiest. Plus there's the whole business of hunting down a serial killer. Oh, and all those things might be connected somehow.
It sounds pretty wild and if Sarah Pinborough's short fiction is any indication, she's got the chops to make it all work.
Does it sound like something you'd want to read? If have already, what did you think of it?
