The winners of the Dark Scribe Magazine Black Quill Awards will be announced on February 9th. I'm quite curious to see who is going to win in each category, as there are some strong contenders. You can click HERE to see the listed nominees.
The Dark Genre Novel of the Year category appears to be stacked: Gillian Flynn's Dark Places, Brian Keene's Castaways, Sarah Langan's Audrey's Door, Dan Simmons' Drood, Alexandra Sokoloff's The Unseen, and Sarah Waters' The Little Stranger.
If I had to guess, I'd hazard that Dan Simmons may win that one. But don't hold me to that.
At any rate, congratulations are in order for all of the nominees, and best wishes to all whether they receive an award or not.
Then there are the Horror Writers Association's Bram Stoker Awards, which will be held later in the year. The preliminary ballots in each category were announced only a day or two ago. Think of it as a long list, before the official nominees list is announced. You can find the preliminary list HERE at Dark Wolf's Fantasy Reviews. The HWA will have their work cut out for them picking four or five from each to short list. I don't envy that task from such a wellspring of talented writers.
Again, a hearty congratulations to everyone who has made it this far in the nomination process.
